Amy Chua is the John M. Duff, Jr. Professor of Law at Yale Law School. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and cum laude from Harvard Law School, where she was Executive Editor of the Harvard Law Review. After practicing on Wall Street for a few years, she joined the Yale Law School faculty in 2001 and is a noted expert in the areas of foreign policy, globalization, and ethnic conflict.
Amy is the bestselling author of numerous books, including World on Fire: How Exporting Free Market Democracy Breeds Ethnic Hatred and Global Instability (2002), which was selected by both The Economist and the U.K.’s Guardian as a Best Book of 2003; Day of Empire: How Hyperpowers Rise to Global Dominance – and Why They Fall (2007); The Triple Package: How Three Unlikely Traits Explain the Rise and Fall of Cultural Groups in America (2013); and Political Tribes: Group Instinct and the Fate of Nations (2018). Her 2011 memoir Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother was a runaway international bestseller that has been translated into 30 languages. Amy will be publishing her debut novel, The Golden Gate, with Minotaur/St. Martin’s Press in September 2023.
In 2011, she was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, one of the Atlantic Monthly’s Brave Thinkers, and one of Foreign Policy’s Global Thinkers. She is also a multiple-time recipient of Yale Law School’s “Best Teaching” award.
A native of Staten Island, New York, Bob Tyson is the strategic managing partner of the 200+ attorney national trial law firm, Tyson & Mendes, and author of the #1 best-selling book, Nuclear Verdicts®: Defending Justice for All.
Mr. Tyson has spent more than 30 years handling products liability, catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and high exposure jury trials. He is especially known for his groundbreaking work on Howell v. Hamilton Meats, the multibillion-dollar case he argued and won before the California Supreme Court. The victory in Howell earned Mr. Tyson the prestigious California Lawyer of the Year (CLAY) award from the California Bar Magazine, among many other honors.
Mr. Tyson went to Villanova University.
David co-founded DDJ Capital Management (now Polen Capital Credit) in 1996, where he built the boutique firm into a premier credit manager focused on high yield and special situation investing. David is Head of Team and Portfolio Manager for U.S. High Yield at Polen Capital. David serves as co portfolio manager of the U.S. Opportunistic High Yield and Upper Tier High Yield strategies. Previously, David was Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Fidelity Investments in the High Income group, where he directed the investment management of high yield and distressed assets. Prior to that, David spent five years at T. Rowe Price as a high yield analyst and portfolio manager. David earned his B.A. in political science and economics from Union College and an M.B.A. from Cornell University. David serves on the Boards of Trustees of Union College and Cornell University.
John joined Polen Capital Credit in 2007. John is co-portfolio manager of the U.S. Opportunistic High Yield strategy, portfolio manager of the Bank Loan strategy, and assistant portfolio manager of the Total Return Credit strategy. Prior to joining Polen Capital Credit, John was an Associate in the Healthcare Group at Thoma Cressey Equity Partners, focusing on private equity investments in middle market companies. Prior to that, John spent two years in the Investment Banking Division of Citigroup as an Analyst for the Global Healthcare Group. John serves on the Board of Directors of a Polen Capital Credit portfolio company. John received a B.B.A. in Finance (magna cum laude) from the University of Notre Dame.
Matthew Walker, Ph.D., is professor of neuroscience at the University of California, Berkeley, and founder and director of the school’s Center for Human Sleep Science. Walker is the author of The New York Times and international bestseller Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams, which was recently listed by Bill Gates as one of his top five books of the year. Matt Walker’s TED Talk, “Sleep is Your Superpower”, has garnered more than 17 million views. He has received numerous funding awards from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health and is a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences. In 2020, Walker was awarded the Carl Sagan Prize for Science Achievements. Walker’s research examines the impact of sleep on human health and disease. He has been featured on numerous television and radio outlets, including CBS’ “60 Minutes,” National Geographic Channel, NOVA Science, NPR, and the BBC. He is also the host of the 5-star-rated podcast, The Matt Walker Podcast.
